Originally opened in 1959 as the Kumasi Sports Stadium, it was later renamed in honor of legendary Ghanaian footballer Baba Yara, one of the nation’s greatest players. With a seating capacity of approximately 40,500 spectators, the stadium serves as the home ground of Asante Kotoko Sporting Club and regularly hosts matches for the Ghana national football team, athletics competitions, concerts, and major national events. The stadium has hosted several editions of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and remains a symbol of Ghana’s rich football heritage.
