Description

Fort Orange, also known as Fort Oranje, is a historic Dutch fort located near Sekondi Harbour in Ghana’s Western Region. Originally built by the Dutch West India Company in 1642 as a trading lodge, it was expanded into a full fort in 1690 and later reinforced after attacks in the late 1600s. The fort formed part of the Dutch Gold Coast trading network and is included in Ghana’s UNESCO-listed forts and castles heritage landscape. Today, it remains an important coastal landmark connected to Sekondi’s colonial, maritime, and trading history.
