Description

The Okomfo Anokye Sword Site is one of Ghana’s most revered historical and spiritual landmarks. Located on the grounds of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), the site preserves the legendary sword said to have been planted by Okomfo Anokye, the renowned priest and statesman who helped found the Ashanti Empire alongside Asantehene Osei Tutu I in the late 17th century.

According to Ashanti tradition, Okomfo Anokye declared that the sword would never be removed until the end of the Ashanti Kingdom. For more than 300 years, numerous attempts have reportedly failed to remove it, making the sword a powerful symbol of Ashanti unity, strength, and identity. The site also explains the story of the Golden Stool, regarded as the spiritual symbol of the Ashanti nation. The monument was officially developed around the sword in 1996 and today welcomes visitors for guided historical tours
