Fort Good Hope
Historic Fort | UNESCO World Heritage Site | Heritage Attraction | Coastal Landmark
Description
Fort Good Hope was built by the Dutch West India Company in 1704 at Senya Beraku to strengthen Dutch trading activities along the Gold Coast. Constructed on a rocky headland overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, the fort served as a center for the trade in gold, ivory, and later enslaved Africans. It later passed to the British in the 19th century and today forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Forts and Castles of Ghana. Visitors can explore its bastions, courtyards, historic cannon positions, and enjoy sweeping views of the Atlantic coastline and the surrounding fishing community.
