Description
The Boabeng-Fiema Monkey Sanctuary is one of Ghana’s most unique wildlife and cultural destinations. Situated between the twin communities of Boabeng and Fiema, the sanctuary protects over 700 sacred monkeys, primarily Mona Monkeys and the endangered Black-and-White Colobus Monkeys, which have lived peacefully alongside local communities for generations. According to local tradition, the monkeys are considered sacred and are protected by customary law. Visitors can enjoy guided walks through the forest, observe the monkeys at close range, learn about traditional conservation practices, and even visit the unique monkey cemetery where deceased monkeys receive ceremonial burials.
