Description
Fort Saint Anthony, also known as Axim Castle, is one of Ghana’s oldest European forts. Originally constructed by the Portuguese in 1515 as a trading post, it was later occupied by the Dutch and the British. Perched on a rocky headland overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and Axim Harbour, the fort played a significant role in the gold, ivory, and transatlantic slave trades. Today, visitors can tour its historic walls, courtyards, lookout points, and exhibitions while enjoying breathtaking coastal views.
