Description

The Paga Crocodile Pond is one of Ghana’s most extraordinary wildlife and cultural attractions. Located in the border town of Paga, the sacred pond is home to West African crocodiles that have coexisted peacefully with the local Kassena people for centuries. According to local tradition, the crocodiles are revered as spiritual guardians and are believed to embody the souls of ancestors, making them protected members of the community.

Unlike crocodiles found elsewhere, the reptiles at Paga are remarkably calm and accustomed to human presence. Under the supervision of experienced guides, visitors can safely approach, touch, and even sit beside a crocodile for photographs after it has been lured from the water with a chicken. The site combines wildlife, history, and traditional beliefs, making it one of the most memorable attractions in northern Ghana.
