Description
Independence Square, popularly known as Black Star Square, is Ghana’s most iconic national monument and ceremonial grounds. Commissioned by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and completed in 1961, the square commemorates Ghana’s independence from British colonial rule on 6 March 1957. It is one of Africa’s largest public squares, capable of accommodating more than 30,000 people, and hosts major national celebrations including Independence Day parades, state ceremonies, concerts, and cultural festivals.
